To be diagnosed with hypogonadism in Australia, a patient has to have low testosterone on two seperate days. This is why we need the 'Testosterone Check' and the 'Comprehensive panel' to be done.
We use private billed pathology. Meaning that there is no Medicare rebate like most blood tests.
This is because Medicare often would not deem the comprehensive blood work as essential, which has resulted in the doctor having to pay for the pathology out of their own pocket.
Private pathology also speeds up the process, as pathology can be ordered instantly through iMedical. This also allows us to order any biomarkers needed, as Medicare often has strict criteria of what can and can't be ordered on pathology investigations.
However, If you have a GP who is willing to do bulk bill the blood work then we can use this. But we will need all the biomarkers in the above 2 tests.

No. Your pathology referral will only be accepted at the following pathology labs:
QML Pathology, Western Diagnostic Pathology, Laverty Pathology, TML Pathology, Aus Clinical Labs
iMedical has a commercial account set up with the above pathology labs, which allows them to be sent the results, and also pay for your pathology tests.
If the test is taken to a different pathology lab that does not have a commercial account with iMedical, you will likely be charged directly from them and also iMedical.
Of course! If your GP is happy to give you a bulk billed referral for the above two tests, then that is fine. Please ensure they test for all the biomarkers as they are required.
iMedical is a company that allows anyone to order any blood test they wish, without having to see a doctor. They have been around since 2006 and are Australia's largest provider of private pathology referrals.
